Mehdi Dastani is associate professor in computer science at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He received his Ph.D. degree from University of Amsterdam (ILLC) for his dissertation on “Languages of Perception”. He holds a M.S. degree in computer science and a M.S. degree in philosophy from University of Amsterdam. He is interested in intelligent systems, in particular, logical and computational models of social and cognitive phenomena such as decision-making, interaction, norms, emotion, and perception. Dastani is currently working in the area of multi-agent systems, multi-agent logics and multi-agent programming. He has developed various multi-agent (programming) frameworks such as BOID (Beliefs, Obligations, Intentions and Desires), 2APL (A Practical Agent Programming Language) and 2OPL (Organization Oriented Programming Language). The frameworks support the development and implementation of multi-agent systems and have been used by many universities for teaching and training purposes.

Dastani has organized many international events related to multi-agent systems, e.g., various editions of the international conference of Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (AAMAS), International workshop on Multi-Agent Programming (ProMAS), Lorentz seminars on Multi-Agent Organisations and Dagstuhl seminars on Multi-Agent Programming. He was the chair of the European Agent System Summer Schools (EASSS) between 2007 and 2010, the Nineteenth Belgian-Dutch Conference on Artificial Intelligence (BNAIC 2007), and the Fifth European workshop on Multi-Agent Systems (EUMAS 2007). Dastani has been a member of the senior program committee of many top international conferences in artificial intelligence (e.g., IJCAI, ECAI , AAAI, AAMAS).

ALESSANDRO RICCI rsz_11alessandro

Alessandro Ricci is a researcher at DISI (Department of Computer Science and Engineering), University of Bologna. His research interest in general concerns Agents and Multi-Agents Systems as a paradigm for designing and developing software systems. His main contributions in the context of Multi-Agent Systems concern the introduction of the concepts of artifact and coordination artifacts as first-class abstractions for modeling and developing agent environments. Recently, his main research focus is on the development of general-purpose programming languages for concurrent/asynchronous/distributed programming based on agents as first-class abstractions.


Dr. Vasconcelos is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, since 2002, having had previous appointments as a lecturer/researcher at the University of Edinburgh (UK), University of Zurich (Switzerland) and in Brazil. He got his PhD at the University of Edinburgh (1995), with work on logic programming. His research interests include knowledge representation and automated reasoning, software engineering and multi-agent systems. His more recent work addresses normative (policies) and organizational aspects of software agents and multi-agent systems. Dr. Vasconcelos has various articles published in venues like AAMAS, IJCAI and ESWC, as well as journals like JAAMAS, IEEE Intelligent Systems, Annals of Mathematics and AI, among others. He has served the international community as member of (senior) program committees of the AAMAS series, IJCAI, ECAI and EUMAS, and many workshops. His recent research projects develop representations of norms/policies for communities of agents competing among themselves, as well as mechanisms to support decision-making in view of norms/policies.


Olivier Boissier is a Full Professor of Computer Science at Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines of Saint-Etienne, France. He got his PhD in Computer Science from the INP Grenoble in 1993 and his “Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches” (HdR) from ENS Mines de Saint-Etienne and Université Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne in 2003. His main research focus is multi-agent systems more particularly coordination, agents’ architecture and multi-agent oriented programming. He has contributed to the development of the MOISE organizational model and to the JaCaMo Multi-Agent Oriented Programming Platform. These works contribute to the definition of multi-agent models, tools and methodologies for the multi-agent oriented engineering of software applications in the field of industrial systems and Ambient Computing.

He participated to the creation of the Coordination, Organization, Institutions and Norms in Agent Systems (COIN) series of successful international workshops. He has organized several workshops and international, national conferences; in particular chair of the 12th French National Conference on Multi-Agent System, program chair of WI-IAT 2011 International Conference on Web Intelligence and Intelligent Agent Technology. He is member of the board the French National Association on Artificial Intelligence. He is involved in national and EU projects and has published more than 120 papers in national and international conferences and journals.

Jomi F. Hübner is an Associate Professor at University of Santa Catarina (Brazil). He finished is PhD at University of São Paulo in 2003 on the subject of multi-agent reorganization. His main research interests are multi-agent programming and tools to develop such systems. The main projects he is co-developing are Moise (an organizational model and infrastructure), Jason (an interpreter of a language for belief-desire-intention agents), and JaCaMo (a multidimensional programming platform for multiagent systems). He co-organised the Iberoamerican Workshop on Multi-Agent Systems (Iberagents@IBERAMIA 2006), the Fifth Workshop on Coordination, Organizations, Institutions, and Norms in Multi-agent System (COIN 2008@AAMAS 08), the Third international Workshop on LAnguages, methodologies and Development tools for multi-agent systems (LADS 2010@MALLOW 2010), the Tenth International Workshop on Programming Multi-Agent Systems (ProMAS@AAMAS 2012), and was the Workshops co-chair at IEEE/WIC/ACM International Joint Conference on Web Intelligence and Intelligent Agent Technology (WI-IAT’11). He has served in the program committees of major conferences and workshops in multi-agent systems and more generally in artificial intelligence: AAMAS, EUMAS, ProMAS, COIN, AT2AI, LADS, SBIA, RFIA, APLSA, SEAS.
